[Flint, MI – May 15, 2024] — Family Promise of Mid Michigan is proud to announce it has received a grant from the Community Foundation of Lapeer County to expand its life-changing programs—Promise for Home and the Shared Housing Intervention Program (SHIP)—into Lapeer County. This investment supports Family Promise’s innovative work to prevent family homelessness and provide sustainable housing solutions for children and their parents across Mid Michigan.

In 2024, Family Promise of Mid Michigan made a significant impact throughout the region:

  • 153 families and 466 children were served.

  • A modest investment of $11,580 prevented 10 families and 60 children from becoming homeless—just $482.50 per child.

  • With an expanded investment of $15,000, Family Promise diverted 65 families and 197 children from entering homelessness—only $95 per family.

  • Through our “Beyond the Promise” stabilization efforts, 113 families and 338 children were supported on their path to long-term independence.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Community Foundation of Lapeer County for investing in our mission as we continue to expand into Lapeer,” said Tiffani Wharry, Executive Director of Family Promise of Mid Michigan. “These programs are proven, cost-effective solutions that not only prevent homelessness but also empower families to stay together and thrive. We’ve already seen remarkable results in Genesee County—and we’re eager to bring this same success to Lapeer families who need us.”

The Promise for Home and SHIP programs offer holistic, community-based approaches to solving family homelessness through rapid re-housing, shared housing coordination, and ongoing stabilization services. Family Promise continues to prove that, with the right support at the right time, homelessness is preventable.
