SHARED HOUSING INTERVENTION PROGRAM

SHIP IS A COLLABORATION PROGRAM BETWEEN FPGC AND GISD MCKINNEY VENTO PROGRAM FOR GENESEE AND LAPEER COUNTIES.

SHIP is designed to help and serve families with children in Genesee and Lapeer counties who are or are at risk of becoming homeless.

Homeless families with children of any age who are doubled-up living with family or friends, couch surfing from house to house, self-moteling, and /or in a housing situation that ai s not intended to be permanent.

A family must be referred by a McKinney-Vento school liaison from within Genesee or Lapeer counties.

Though less intensive than the care they receive in our emergency shelter program, our SHIP Case Manager meets with them regularly to ensure they meet their goals.  The biggest benefit to our SHIP program is that we can assist families in problem-solving issues that might derail their progress, advocate on their behalf when necessary, or give referrals to services to help bridge any gaps they may face.  Any children in our graduate program can participate in our school/summer camp program.

The goal of SHIP is to improve family stability and increase the quality of life for families experiencing housing hardship endure. We look to bridge the gap between homelessness and safe, stable, affordable housing.
