In partnership with Genesee Intermediate School District & Family Promise of Mid Michigan
When a family is in crisis, stability starts with support. That’s the guiding belief behind the Shared Housing Intervention Program—SHIP—a collaborative effort between Family Promise of Mid Michigan and the Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) McKinney-Vento Program serving both Genesee and Lapeer Counties.
Through SHIP, we provide wraparound support for families with children who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness—helping them navigate temporary housing situations, connect with resources, and build toward lasting stability.
💡 What is SHIP?
SHIP is designed to meet families where they are:
Couch-surfing from house to house
Doubling up with friends or relatives
Self-paying for motel rooms
Living in unsafe or temporary housing not meant to be permanent
Our goal is to help families move from survival mode to a place where they can thrive—with case management, financial coaching, life skills development, and access to basic needs all built into the program.
👨👩👧👦 Who Can Join?
To be eligible for SHIP, families must:
Be experiencing homelessness or at immediate risk
Live in Genesee or Lapeer County
Have at least one child (of any age) in the household
Be referred by a McKinney-Vento school liaison
If you’re not sure who your liaison is, give us a call—we’re happy to help guide you.
